1. Towards Öcsöd, turn right before the settlement sign and ride along the dam of the Körös river to see the dam. On the right side of the road you will see a beautifully landscaped grove and fishing lake. If you look carefully, you can also see the Cholera Cross, erected in memory of the victims of the epidemic. The beautiful building of the pumping station, which was inaugurated on 15 October 1942 and was inaugurated in the presence of Governor Miklós Horthy, can be seen through the foliage. The memorial plaque to Hugó Lampl can be seen on the dam wall.
a, If you continue cycling along the dam, which is now without asphalt, you will come to the ferry from Szarvas. Turn right at the "end" of the dam and head towards the Arboretum, where you can take a relaxing stroll in the collection garden or a cruise on the Holt-Körös. Saddle up again and continue to road 44, then cross it to the Körös-Maros National Park, where you can visit Anna Castle and Anna Grove. From here we cycle back to the main road and turn left onto the cycle path parallel to the main road, which will take us back to Szentandrás.
b, Crossing over the bridge to Mezőtúr.
c, If you turn left at the dam before the pump station, you can cycle to Öcsöd.
2. If you take the Szentes road, you will arrive at the Gödény pile, the largest pile in Central Europe, on the outskirts of the village. This mound used to be a road marker, customs, guard, burial and cult place. It is worth contemplating this monumental work of the distant past.
3. Both villages on the Körös have wonderful waterfront and beaches, and it is a refreshing experience to take a dip in the water after a bike ride. In Szarvas, you can rent a kayak or a boat to explore the world of the Körös Valley.
We would like to recommend the above hikes, although they do not give a complete picture of our region.
